Free- Mapdraw is an app in which you can track and navigate a desired route on a map. When you open it up, it looks a lot like the Maps app that comes with the iPad. You can change between the map view, terrain view, or a hybrid. You can then create a route to the hundredths of a mile. You can also insert different points along the way. I have used this app personally as a motivation tool for running during the winter. I will run on the treadmill for however long and record the distance. I will then add that distance to my map and go wherever I want to. During the first few days of February, I "virtually" ran from Des Moines to Ankeny, IA (about 9 miles, see below). This app could also work great in PE if the teacher does some sort of mileage club, or any work with pedometers. The students can track their own route and choose where they want to go!
